Why Glenn Maxwell is Skipping IPL 2025: A Heartfelt Farewell
Glenn Maxwell Bows Out of IPL 2025
In a surprising turn of events, Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has announced his decision to withdraw from the 19th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), just weeks ahead of the auction. He expressed his choice was made with immense gratitude towards the league.
Previously released by the Punjab Kings, Maxwell was set to enter the auction on December 16. However, he has now confirmed that he will not participate in this lucrative tournament in India.
In a heartfelt message shared on his Instagram, Maxwell stated, “After many unforgettable seasons in the IPL, I’ve decided not to put my name into the auction this year. It’s a big call, and one I make with a lot of gratitude for everything this league has given me.”
Maxwell further elaborated, “The IPL has played a significant role in my development as both a cricketer and an individual. I’ve had the privilege of playing alongside world-class teammates, representing fantastic franchises, and entertaining fans whose enthusiasm is unparalleled. The experiences, challenges, and vibrant atmosphere of India will remain with me forever. I appreciate all the support over the years, and I hope to see you all soon. Cheers, Maxi.”
In the 2025 season, Maxwell played for PBKS under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer, with Ricky Ponting serving as the head coach. Unfortunately, he suffered a finger injury during the tournament, which led to his early exit from the season.
With this announcement, Maxwell's future in the IPL appears uncertain, especially as he has hinted at not returning. He joins the ranks of other notable players like Andre Russell, who has retired from the IPL, and Faf du Plessis, who has opted out of the upcoming mini-auction in Abu Dhabi.
