Security Upgrades at M Chinnaswamy Stadium
Bengaluru: Venkatesh Prasad, the president of the Karnataka State Cricket Association, expressed optimism about finalizing the ongoing security upgrades at M Chinnaswamy Stadium before the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) team arrives on March 15.
The RCB has confirmed that they will host five league matches, including the IPL 2026 opener, at this venue, putting an end to previous uncertainties.
Prasad assured reporters, "There are still some tasks to complete, but we are committed to meeting the deadlines set by the expert committee led by Mr. Maheshwar Rao."
He added, "We have made every effort to meet their expectations. They have conducted multiple assessments, including a visit yesterday morning to evaluate the progress. The RCB is expected to gather here on March 15, with a ticketed Unbox event scheduled a week before the IPL's first match."
KSCA Secretary Santosh Menon mentioned that the association has updated the expert committee on the security measures implemented so far.
Menon stated, "We have introduced new strategies to manage crowd flow more effectively. We have constructed 13 new gates, each 9 meters wide, exceeding the 6-meter requirement set by the expert committee to facilitate smoother spectator entry."
He emphasized, "The safety of our spectators is our top priority. We will ensure clear communication regarding these measures. We encourage fans to utilize public transport, especially the metro, which now offers extensive connectivity. The holding area near the KSCA 'B' ground is also progressing quickly."
Menon reassured that the ongoing repairs outside the stadium will not disrupt the team's training or access to facilities like the pavilion and dressing rooms.
He also noted that RCB has partnered with BMRCL to provide free metro rides for ticket holders, with an announcement expected soon.
Additionally, Menon mentioned that arrangements have been made for separate queues for women and children on match days to manage gate congestion, with gates opening 3-4 hours prior to matches.
He concluded, "According to the stadium agreement, which involves the BCCI, the stadium association, and the franchisee, we are responsible for certain aspects such as pitch maintenance and lighting, while RCB handles gate security and ticketing, and law enforcement is managed by the police outside the stadium."
