West Indies Women to Host Australia in March-April Series

Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced that the West Indies Women will compete against Australia Women in an exhilarating six-match white-ball series, taking place in St Vincent and the Grenadines and St. Kitts and Nevis during March and April.

Originally, the tour was planned to feature the West Indies' first Test match since 2004, and only their second since 1979. However, the schedule has now shifted to include three T20 Internationals in St Vincent on March 19, 21, and 23, followed by three One Day Internationals in St Kitts on March 27, 29, and April 2.

This series will showcase three high-stakes T20 matches and three competitive ODIs, as the Maroon Warriors face off against the world's top-ranked team in both formats.

With the ICC Women's T20 World Cup approaching in the UK, every moment of the series will be crucial, making each ball, run, and wicket significant.

Currently, Australia holds the top position in the world rankings, while the West Indies Women are ranked 5th in T20Is and 9th in ODIs, setting the stage for an exciting battle between established dominance and Caribbean spirit.

This series is also a vital part of the team's preparations for the upcoming global event, following their ongoing series against Sri Lanka in Grenada.

Miles Bascombe, CWI's Director of Cricket, emphasized the importance of this series, stating, "With the ICC Women's T20 World Cup just a few months away, this series against Australia is a pivotal benchmark in our preparation. It gives our players the opportunity to challenge themselves against the very best and to elevate their performance under pressure."

Emphasis on White-Ball Readiness

While there were initial talks of including a Test match, the focus this year will be on enhancing white-ball readiness ahead of the global tournament.

"Our planning this year prioritizes maximizing white-ball readiness ahead of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup. This series forms a central part of that preparation, allowing us to concentrate resources and build combinations. We remain committed to the long-term growth of women's Test cricket, and discussions are already underway for a future red-ball opportunity, including a highly anticipated series against England in 2027."
