West Indies Triumph Over India in Thrilling T20I Showdown
West Indies Chase Down 250 Runs
In a gripping encounter at the JSCA International Stadium in Ranchi, India’s captain Shreyas Iyer acknowledged the impressive performance of the West Indies batters after they successfully chased a target of 250 runs, defeating India by six wickets in the second T20I. India set a formidable score of 249/5 in their 20 overs, with standout performances from Sanju Samson, who scored 82 runs off 41 balls, along with Ishan Kishan (43), Shreyas Iyer (40), and Tilak Varma (44). Leading the charge for the West Indies, captain Shai Hope scored an explosive 102 not out off just 45 balls, supported by Sherfane Rutherford’s 84 runs off 37 balls, and Romario Shepherd, who finished with 34 runs off 13 balls. The West Indies reached a total of 252/4 in just 18.3 overs, leveling the five-match series at 1-1.
Iyer Acknowledges Dew Impact
Post-match, Shreyas Iyer reflected on the dew factor, which complicated the assessment of a secure total and allowed little room for mistakes. He commended the West Indies for their batting prowess and highlighted the contributions of Samson, Abhishek, and Mayank Yadav. Iyer stated, "The dew factor significantly influences the game. It’s challenging to set a target. The margin for error on this pitch was minimal, and any slight mistake could lead to runs. We had a few missed opportunities, but that’s part of cricket. Credit to the West Indies; they batted exceptionally well. Regarding Mayank and Samson, both were outstanding. This is the kind of performance we expect from Sanju and Abhishek. Their contributions, along with Mayank's, were crucial for us."
Historic Chase for West Indies
This victory marked the West Indies' highest successful run chase in T20I history and stands as the second-highest chase in the format, following South Africa's chase of 259 against the West Indies in Centurion in 2023. Despite Mayank Yadav's commendable bowling figures of 3 wickets for 36 runs in three overs, India’s bowlers faced challenges in containing the West Indies' batting. Kuldeep Yadav recorded 1/53 in four overs, while Arshdeep Singh and Axar Patel conceded 45 and 63 runs respectively in their four and 3.3 overs.
