West Indies Penalized for Slow Over-Rate

The West Indies women's cricket team has incurred a penalty of 10% of their match fee due to a slow over-rate during the first T20I against Australia, held at the Arnos Vale Ground in Kingstown, St. Vincent. The sanction was imposed by match referee Reon King from the International Cricket Council (ICC) Emirates International Panel after the team was found to be two overs short of the required rate, even after considering time allowances.

According to Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, players face a fine of 5% of their match fee for each over not bowled in the allotted time. West Indies captain Hayley Matthews acknowledged the violation and accepted the penalty, which negated the necessity for a formal hearing. The charge was brought forth by on-field umpires Lauren Agenbag and Jacquline Williams, along with third umpire Candace La Borde and fourth umpire Maria Abbott.

Batting first, Australia set a formidable total, with Beth Mooney and Ellyse Perry delivering strong performances that laid a solid foundation for the series. Their innings featured consistent partnerships and timely bursts of scoring, creating a challenging target for the West Indies.

The West Indies struggled to maintain the required run rate, losing wickets frequently, which hindered their chase. Beth Mooney was awarded Player of the Match for her outstanding half-century.
