West Indies Cricket Team's Departure Delayed Due to Security Issues
Departure Postponed Amid Security Concerns
The West Indies cricket squad's departure from India has been delayed due to restrictions in international airspace linked to security issues in the Gulf Region, as confirmed by Cricket West Indies (CWI) on Monday.
CWI stated, "These restrictions stem from security threats associated with military actions in the Gulf Region, affecting numerous international flight paths and necessitating airlines to modify their schedules for safety reasons."
CWI Focuses on Safety and Travel Arrangements
The organization emphasized that the safety of players, coaching staff, and officials is their utmost priority.
"CWI is collaborating with the International Cricket Council (ICC), relevant government bodies, and airline partners to arrange the safest possible travel for the team and support staff," the statement continued.
Currently, the West Indies team is safely housed in India, and the board is vigilantly observing the situation. Fans and stakeholders will be updated as travel plans are confirmed.
T20 World Cup Exit Precedes Travel Delay
This travel delay follows the West Indies' exit from the ICC Men's T20 World Cup after a five-wicket defeat to India in their final Super Eight match at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Despite a strong performance in the league stage, the Caribbean team stumbled in the Super Eights, missing out on the semi-finals.
