Virat Kohli Shines in VHT Comeback with Century and Milestone Achievements
Kohli's Impressive Return to VHT
Indian cricket star Virat Kohli made a remarkable comeback to the Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT), not only surpassing 16,000 runs in List-A cricket but also scoring a stunning century. At 37, Kohli demonstrated that age is merely a number, showcasing his exceptional consistency, skillful pacing, and ability to find gaps on the field. His journey began when he led India to victory in the U19 World Cup, and he continues to captivate fans with his performances.
In his first VHT match in 15 years and his first 50-over game for Delhi in over a decade, Kohli scored 131 runs off 101 balls, hitting 14 fours and three sixes, achieving a strike rate exceeding 129. His innings included trademark drives and impressive running between the wickets.
Delhi's Victory in the Match
Delhi won the toss and opted to field first. A century from Ricky Bhui, who scored 122 runs off 105 balls with 11 fours and seven sixes, helped Andhra Pradesh post a total of 298/8 in their 50 overs. Captain Nitish Kumar Reddy contributed 23 runs off 21 balls, including a four and a six. For Delhi, Simarjeet Singh and Prince Yadav were standout bowlers, taking 5/54 and 3/50, respectively.
Despite an early loss of Arpit Rana, a solid partnership of 113 runs between Priyansh Arya (74 runs off 44 balls) and Kohli set a strong foundation. Kohli's partnership with Nitish Rana (77 runs off 55 balls) was crucial, leading to Delhi's victory by four wickets in 37.4 overs.
Kohli Achieves Significant Milestones
Kohli has now become the second Indian player, after Sachin Tendulkar, to reach 16,000 runs in List-A cricket, making him the ninth player globally to achieve this feat. With his 58th List-A century, he is just three centuries shy of surpassing Tendulkar's record of 60. Kohli reached this milestone in just 330 innings, significantly faster than Tendulkar's 391 innings.
To date, Kohli has played 343 matches, accumulating 16,130 runs at an impressive average of 57.60, with a strike rate nearing 94, including 58 centuries and 84 fifties, with a highest score of 183.
