A Heartfelt Tribute from Virat Kohli


New Delhi: Renowned Indian cricketer Virat Kohli has expressed his sorrow over the death of Rinku Singh's father, Khanchand, who succumbed to liver cancer on Friday.


Khanchand was hospitalized at Yatharth Hospital in Greater Noida on February 21, where his health significantly declined, leading to his placement on a ventilator until his passing in the early hours of Friday.


Kohli took to X to share his condolences, stating, "Deeply saddened by the news of Rinku’s father’s demise. My heartfelt prayers and thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time. May you always find strength in his eternal blessings. Om Shanti."


Funeral and Support from the Cricket Community


The remains of Khanchand Singh were transported to Aligarh from Greater Noida, where Rinku participated in the funeral procession, carrying his father's body.


Rinku had hurried back from Chennai at 5:00 am to be with his father during his final moments but returned to the T20 World Cup squad for India's match against Zimbabwe at MA Chidambaram Stadium on Thursday, although he did not play as Sanju Samson was selected to open the batting with Abhishek Sharma.


Earlier, the BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia informed that Rinku would not accompany the team to Kolkata for their upcoming Super Eights match against the West Indies on Sunday.


Condolences from the Cricket Fraternity

Prem Manohar Gupta, the chief of the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA), also expressed his sorrow, stating, "Really disheartened to hear about the demise of Rinku Singh’s father. Happiness had just begun to come into the family, and Rinku’s wedding had recently been fixed. At such a time, this loss feels even more painful. The entire UPCA stands firmly with Rinku Singh and his family."


BCCI president Mithun Manhas shared his condolences on X, saying, "Deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Rinku Singh’s father. My heartfelt condolences to Rinku and his family in this difficult time. May lord Shiva give him the strength to stay strong."
