New Delhi, Oct 27: Indian cricket icon Virat Kohli extended his warm congratulations to Harry Kane, the captain of the England football team, for clinching the esteemed Ballon d'Or award. Kohli praised Kane as a dedicated and hardworking athlete who truly merits this recognition.

Sharing his thoughts on a microblogging platform, Kohli, who shares an endorsement deal with Kane's sports apparel brand, expressed his admiration for the football star's remarkable journey and accomplishments.

"Harry, my friend, you have earned every bit of this accolade through your resilience, dedication, and integrity throughout your illustrious football career. I am genuinely thrilled for you," Kohli remarked.

He further added, "May God bless you and your family. They must be incredibly proud of you, just as you should be of your own journey. Wishing you all the best. Congratulations!"

At 33, Kane played a pivotal role in leading England to a third-place finish in this year's World Cup, netting 73 goals across both club and international matches.

The forward was also key to Bayern Munich's successful season, contributing to their double triumph by winning both the Bundesliga and the German Cup.

Kane has made history by becoming the first English player to win the Ballon d'Or in over twenty years, with Michael Owen being the last to achieve this feat in 2001.

In the race for this prestigious award, Kane faced tough competition from renowned players such as Kylian Mbappe, Lamine Yamal, Rodri, and Lionel Messi.

Since its inception in 1956, the Ballon d'Or has been recognized as one of the highest individual accolades in global football, determined by votes from selected international journalists, with one representative from each eligible country.
