Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's Record-Breaking Performance

Jaipur: The young star of Rajasthan Royals, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, is making headlines in the IPL with his remarkable achievements. During a pivotal match against Lucknow Super Giants, he made history by becoming the first Indian player to hit 50 sixes in a single IPL season.

At the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, Rajasthan was tasked with chasing a daunting target of 220 runs set by Lucknow. Vaibhav delivered an outstanding performance, scoring 93 runs off just 38 balls, which included 7 fours and 10 sixes. His explosive innings propelled Rajasthan Royals to a comfortable victory, keeping their playoff aspirations alive.

Previously, Vaibhav had surpassed Abhishek Sharma's record of 42 sixes set in 2024 during a match against Delhi Capitals, marking him as the Indian player with the highest number of sixes in a season. Entering the match against Lucknow with 43 sixes, he hit two consecutive sixes off pacer Mayank Yadav in the 11th over, bringing his season total to 53 sixes across 13 matches.

Chasing Records

Vaibhav is now on the verge of breaking the all-time IPL record for the most sixes in a season, currently held by West Indies great Chris Gayle, who hit 59 sixes for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2012. Vaibhav needs just 7 more sixes to surpass this record. He has already outdone Kolkata's Andre Russell, who previously held second place with 52 sixes.

With one league match remaining against Mumbai Indians, and potentially more if Rajasthan advances to the playoffs, it appears highly likely that the 15-year-old will break Gayle's record. Earlier in the season, Vaibhav also set the record for the most sixes by an Indian in a single innings, hitting 12 sixes while scoring 103 runs off 37 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Following his latest performance, he has claimed the Orange Cap as the tournament's leading run-scorer with 579 runs from 13 matches. Additionally, his innings against Lucknow allowed him to break Travis Head's record for the second-most runs scored in the powerplay in a single season.
