A Memorable IPL Debut

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, a 15-year-old cricket prodigy, has shared his experiences from his remarkable debut season in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. He vividly remembers the emotional moment he was selected by the Rajasthan Royals (RR) and the significant events that shaped his early career. Sooryavanshi made his IPL debut at the age of 14 against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and was acquired by the Royals for Rs 1.1 Crore during the 2025 auction. Since then, he has been setting new records in the lucrative league.

The Auction Experience

In an interview with JioStar, Sooryavanshi recounted receiving his first congratulatory call from Romi Bhinder, the team manager of RR, shortly after his selection at the auction held in Dubai. "I was in Dubai when I got the call from Romi Bhinder sir. After the trials, he had assured me they would choose me, and we spoke for a few minutes as he congratulated me," he shared.

A Dream Debut and Record-Breaking Century

Sooryavanshi reflected on his impactful debut, where he made a statement right away. He hit a six off his very first ball in the IPL against LSG, scoring 34 runs off 20 balls as an Impact Player. "Hitting a six off my first ball was a special moment and a cherished memory," he noted. He later achieved his first IPL century against the Gujarat Titans (GT), which he described as a proud moment for him and his family. He scored a 35-ball century, marking the fastest by an Indian player and the youngest in IPL history. "Scoring a hundred in my third match was incredible, and I’m eager to maintain this momentum," he added.

'Team Success Over Personal Milestones'

Sooryavanshi emphasized the significance of team achievements over personal records, stating that contributions leading to victories are paramount in cricket. He shared the values imparted by his father, highlighting that runs only matter if they help the team win. "My father always told me that personal scores mean nothing if the team doesn’t win. Cricket is a team sport, and I value an 80-run contribution in a winning match more than a century in a loss," he explained.

Looking Ahead to Qualifier 2

Following their victory against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Eliminator, Rajasthan is set to face Gujarat in the IPL 2026 Qualifier 2 for a chance to compete in the final against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Sunday. Sooryavanshi, who scored an impressive 97 runs off just 29 balls in the Eliminator, discussed his mindset for the upcoming match. "We aim to maintain a positive attitude and continue the team's successful approach throughout the tournament. Enjoying the game and trusting our strengths is crucial as we strive to reach the finals and hopefully win the trophy," he stated.
