Sooryavanshi Shatters Records in IPL

In a remarkable display of talent, Rajasthan Royals' young star Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has eclipsed the legendary Chris Gayle's record for the most sixes in a single Indian Premier League (IPL) season and T20 tournament. This achievement came during the IPL eliminator against Sunrisers Hyderabad, where Sooryavanshi scored an explosive 97 runs off just 29 balls, hitting five fours and an astonishing 12 sixes, achieving a strike rate of 334.48.

Sooryavanshi has now hit a total of 65 sixes in the current IPL season, surpassing Gayle's previous record of 59 sixes set in 2012. Additionally, he has matched Gayle's record for the most innings with 10 or more sixes in IPL history, accomplishing this feat four times, with three instances occurring this season alone.

The 15-year-old prodigy continues to impress by breaking records previously held by cricketing greats. He surpassed Sri Lankan icon Sanath Jayasuriya's record of seven powerplay sixes, achieving eight sixes during the powerplay in a match against Mumbai Indians.

Sooryavanshi now holds the record for the most runs scored in the powerplay during an IPL season, amassing 490 runs, which exceeds David Warner's 467 runs for Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2016. This marks his fifth fifty-plus score in the powerplay, with only Warner ahead of him with six such scores. He has also joined the ranks of Suresh Raina and Adam Gilchrist for fifty-plus scores in IPL knockout matches.

New Playoff Records Set by Sooryavanshi

Sooryavanshi's half-century off just 16 balls ties him with Raina for the fastest fifty in IPL playoff history. His 12 sixes in a single innings are the most ever recorded in IPL knockouts, surpassing Shubman Gill's previous record of 10 sixes.

His score of 97 is the second-highest individual score for Rajasthan Royals in IPL playoff history, following Jos Buttler's 106* against Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2022.

A Historic IPL Season for Sooryavanshi

Throughout this IPL season, Sooryavanshi has accumulated 680 runs in 15 innings, averaging 45.33 with a strike rate of 242.85, including one century and four fifties, with a top score of 103. He has hit 55 fours and 65 sixes from 280 balls faced, achieving a boundary every 2.3 balls and a six every 4.3 balls.

This season marks the highest run total for an uncapped player in IPL history, surpassing his teammate Yashasvi Jaiswal's 625 runs in 2023. He is also the youngest player to reach 600 runs in a single IPL season.

Before Sooryavanshi's emergence, no player in T20 history had scored over 600 runs in a tournament while maintaining a strike rate above 200.
