Inaugural Wheelchair National Championships Announced

USA Pickleball has officially unveiled its first-ever Wheelchair National Championships, a significant milestone for adaptive pickleball in the country. Scheduled to take place from June 19 to 21, 2026, in Colorado Springs, this event is organized in collaboration with Peak Pickleball, and registration is currently open.

The championship will include singles, doubles, and hybrid doubles events, catering to players of all skill levels, from novices to seasoned national competitors. Specifically tailored for wheelchair athletes, the championship aims to foster a competitive yet welcoming atmosphere.

Mike Nealy, CEO of USA Pickleball, expressed pride in this initiative, stating, “This is a defining moment for our sport. By launching a national championship for wheelchair athletes, we are not only broadening opportunities but also contributing to a more inclusive future for pickleball at all levels.”

Event Format

Pool play and/or round robin (1 game to 11, win by 2 or 1 game to 15, win by 2 based on draw size)

Playoff matches: 1 game to 15, win by 2

Bronze medal match: 1 game to 15, win by 2

Gold medal match: best 2 out of 3 games to 11, win by 2

DUPR

Results from Wheelchair Doubles and Singles will be recorded in DUPR, while Hybrid Doubles results will not be included. This strategy supports the development of a new wheelchair pickleball rating system and encourages maximum participation from able-bodied players in Hybrid events.
