UP T20 League Season 4 Set to Kick Off in 2026 with Exciting Changes
Tournament Schedule and Locations
The UP T20 League (UPT20 Season 4) is scheduled to take place from August 14 to September 6, 2026. This 24-day event will feature a total of 34 matches, comprising 13 double-header days and 8 single-header days, as announced by the organizers on Sunday.
Historic Hosting Across Two Cities
In a first for the league, UPT20 will be hosted in two cities. The tournament will commence at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, where 22 matches will be played over 13 matchdays. The second phase will transition to the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur, which will host the remaining 12 matches across 11 matchdays. The opening ceremony and the inaugural match will take place in Lucknow, while Kanpur will host the final and closing ceremony, culminating the tournament with a grand finale.
Key Proposals Approved by UPCA Council
During a meeting on Sunday, the Governing Council of the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) approved several significant proposals for the organization of UPT20 Season 4. The UPCA expressed gratitude to Uttar Pradesh's Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath, and BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla for their ongoing support and guidance. The council stated, "With their encouragement, UPT20 Season 4 will be hosted in Lucknow and Kanpur, a decision aimed at expanding cricket's reach in Uttar Pradesh and utilizing the state's sports infrastructure more effectively."
Details on Tournament Operations and Player Auction
The Governing Council also discussed various aspects of the tournament, including the schedule, venues, player auction, and operational procedures. The Mini Auction for UPT20 Season 4 is set for July 24, 2026, in Agra, with 45 player slots available across six franchises. Additionally, the council approved policies regarding player retention, selection processes, trials in catchment areas, and guidelines for support staff selection, ensuring transparency and professionalism throughout the tournament. The catchment area model will continue to provide local talent from various districts in Uttar Pradesh with opportunities to showcase their skills.
Suresh Raina Continues as Brand Ambassador
Former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina will remain the Brand Ambassador for the UPT20 League. The league's popular anthem, "Khiladi Yahan Banta Hai" (Champions Are Made Here), will also return this season.
Prize Money and Incentives
To honor exceptional performances, the league has maintained a total prize pool of Rs 3 crore. The champions will receive Rs 1 crore, while the runners-up will get Rs 60 lakh, along with attractive cash awards for other top-performing teams and players.
Environmental Initiative: 'Har Boundary, Ek Nai Hariyali'
UPCA has launched a special environmental campaign during UPT20 Season 4, titled "Har Boundary, Ek Nai Hariyali" (Every Boundary, A New Greenery). For every four and six scored during the tournament, a tree will be planted in various districts of Uttar Pradesh. This initiative aims to merge the excitement of cricket with environmental conservation, encouraging young fans and players to engage in protecting nature. The UPT20 League aspires to be a celebration of cricket while also serving as a platform for positive social change.
