Union Minister Celebrates Lakshya Sen's Silver Medal at All England Open 2026
Minister Applauds Sen's Remarkable Performance
On Sunday, Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, expressed his admiration for Lakshya Sen's performance in the All England final, stating his pride in Sen's accomplishments despite the challenging defeat.
Sen secured a silver medal at the All England Open 2026 after narrowly losing to Lin Chun-Yi from Chinese Taipei in the men's singles final with scores of 21-15, 22-20.
"Tough luck, Lakshya. Even though you lost such a closely contested All England final, your performance is commendable. This marks your second final in Birmingham, which is a significant achievement for us to celebrate. You have a bright future ahead, young man. The entire nation stands proud of you," Mandaviya shared in a post on X.
A Gripping Final Match
Sen, who had already spent over five hours on the court leading up to the final, faced a fierce opponent in Lin during the 57-minute match but ultimately fell short for the second time in the All England final.
Lin, who previously won the Yonex-Sunrise India Open Super 500 title this year, made history by becoming the first men's singles player from Chinese Taipei to win this prestigious tournament.
Lin Dominates the First Game
In the final match, Sen initially struggled to find his footing. However, once he settled into his rhythm, he began to challenge Lin with longer rallies. Despite reaching the final in 2022, Sen had difficulty with the depth of his lifts and tosses, allowing Lin to capitalize and secure the first game.
Sen's Determined Comeback Falls Short
In a must-win scenario during the second game, Sen increased the pace of the rallies, forcing Lin into making errors. He surged ahead by winning six consecutive points from a 3-4 deficit to lead 9-4. However, Lin, displaying resilience, began to regain control of the match. As Lin reached a match point at 20-19, Sen fought valiantly to save the first match point, but ultimately, Lin clinched the title on his second match point.
