UNICA Group and Andalusian Tennis Federation Promote Pickleball for Employee Wellness
Promoting Health Through Pickleball
The popularity of pickleball is surging in Spain, making its way into the workplace as UNICA Group collaborates with the Andalusian Tennis Federation to enhance employee wellness through sports. Recently, they organized a sports and wellness day at UNICA Group's headquarters located in the Almería Science and Technology Park (PITA), where a new pickleball court was inaugurated. This initiative is part of a larger strategy to promote healthier lifestyles among employees.
The event gathered staff members, sports officials, and pickleball coaches for a day dedicated to physical fitness, team bonding, and overall workplace wellness. Notable attendees included Alberto Rodríguez Cervantes, president of the Andalusian Tennis Federation and vice-president of the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation, along with Diego Calderón, deputy general manager of UNICA Group, and provincial delegate Paco Sáez.
Participants were introduced to pickleball through a beginner-friendly clinic led by instructors Javier Segura and Cristina Villena from the federation and Pickleball Almería. This session covered the fundamental rules and essential techniques of the sport, allowing attendees to engage with one of the fastest-growing paddle sports globally.
This initiative is part of a strategic partnership between the Andalusian Tennis Federation and UNICA Group, aimed at incorporating sports into the corporate culture and promoting healthier habits among employees. Alberto Rodríguez Cervantes emphasized the significant impact such programs can have within organizations, stating, "Bringing sports closer to businesses is crucial for fostering camaraderie, health, and well-being among employees."
He also commended UNICA Group for its dedication to innovative approaches through sports, saying, "The company's commitment to promoting positive values through sports is commendable." For UNICA Group, this project aligns with its broader focus on employee welfare and workplace culture. Diego Calderón, the deputy general manager, remarked, "We are dedicated to creating a healthy and dynamic work environment, where activities like this enhance internal cohesion and the well-being of our entire team."
The establishment of the pickleball court reflects a growing trend across Europe, where the sport is being embraced not only by sports clubs but also by educational institutions and businesses looking to boost employee engagement and physical activity. With the new facility now operational, UNICA Group intends to keep investing in initiatives that promote healthy habits, strengthen workplace relationships, and encourage sports participation among its workforce. This partnership also underscores the expanding presence of pickleball in Spain, where the sport is rapidly gaining popularity among new players and communities.
