The Chief Minister's comments followed Asmita's historic victory as she became the first Indian to win a gold medal in judo at the Commonwealth Games. The 23-year-old athlete secured the women's 48kg title by defeating Canada's Heidi Quach in a thrilling final that went into Golden Score at the Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow on Friday.

An Exciting Final Match

The final match was fiercely contested from the beginning, with both competitors engaging in intense grappling and pushing each other to the mat's edge. Quach took the lead with a scoring throw midway through the match. However, Asmita quickly responded, despite receiving a Shido penalty, with a swift throw that leveled the score. She then gained confidence, launching a series of attacks while skillfully defending against Quach's moves.

As the match ended in a tie after regulation time, it proceeded to Golden Score, where the first point scored would determine the winner. Remaining calm under pressure, Asmita executed a perfectly timed throw near the mat's edge, achieving a decisive yuko and clinching a memorable 2-1 victory.
