Trinamool Congress Criticizes Election Commission Over Richa Ghosh's Voter Status

The Trinamool Congress has voiced strong objections to the Election Commission's decision to classify Richa Ghosh, a member of India's World Cup-winning women's cricket team, as 'under adjudication' in the voter list. The party claims this action reflects a broader issue of electoral manipulation, questioning the implications for ordinary voters. Ghosh, who has recently taken on a significant role in the West Bengal Police, is now facing scrutiny that the TMC argues undermines her democratic rights. This situation raises critical concerns about the treatment of prominent figures and the potential disenfranchisement of the general populace.

TMC Raises Concerns Over Richa Ghosh's Voter Registration

On Sunday, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) expressed its discontent regarding Richa Ghosh, a member of India's victorious women's cricket team at the World Cup, who has been marked as 'under adjudication' in the voter list published on February 28. The party accused the Election Commission of engaging in a 'silent invisible rigging' operation.

Ghosh, residing in Ward No 19 of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation, has recently taken on the role of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) with the West Bengal Police and is currently serving as the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in the Siliguri Police Commissionerate.

In a post on X, the TMC stated, 'The farce of @BJP4India and @ECISVEEP's silent invisible rigging reaches new lows of absurdity.' They highlighted that a celebrated athlete like Richa Ghosh, who has brought pride to Bengal and glory to India as a wicketkeeper-batter, should not be subjected to such scrutiny in the electoral rolls.

The party emphasized that Ghosh has represented India with honor on international platforms, earning the respect of every Bengali. They lamented that she is now facing this humiliating situation, with her voter status being questioned and her democratic rights seemingly at risk due to this voter purge.

The TMC raised concerns about the implications of targeting even well-known personalities like Ghosh, questioning what this means for the average Bengali voter. They drew attention to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, suggesting that this is a systematic effort to disenfranchise and silence Bengal's voice, one name at a time.

At just 22 years old, Ghosh was part of the Indian team that triumphed in the 2025 ICC Women's World Cup.
