The Impact of Forwards in ISL 2024-25

In the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25, forwards have proven to be the driving force behind their teams' offensive strategies. They not only score goals but also influence the game's pace, break deadlocks, and uplift team morale. This season, they rose to the occasion, showcasing their skills and leaving a significant mark, as highlighted by the official ISL website.


Alaaeddine Ajaraie, the Golden Boot winner, made a remarkable debut with NorthEast United FC (NEUFC), clinching both the Golden Boot and Golden Ball awards. He set a new league record for the most braces in a single season and became the first player to achieve three consecutive braces. Ajaraie also made history by scoring over 20 goals (23) and contributing more than 25 goals (30) in one season.


Sunil Chhetri continues to impress, leading the all-time ISL scoring chart with 14 goals this season, marking the second-highest tally of his career. As the top Indian scorer, he also contributed to 16 goals, equaling his personal best. Chhetri played a vital role in Bengaluru FC's (BFC) playoff journey and their run to the ISL Cup final.


Jamie Maclaren had an outstanding season with 12 goals, the highest for any player from Mohun Bagan Super Giant (MBSG). His consistent scoring was crucial for the club, which achieved an ISL double for the first time. Maclaren's sharp finishing and instincts in the box were key highlights of the league.


Jesus Jimenez made a significant impact in his debut season with Kerala Blasters FC (KBFC), scoring 11 goals, the second-highest for a debutant in the club's history. He achieved a shot conversion rate of 25.6%, ranking second among players with at least 10 shots this season.


Luka Majcen was instrumental for Punjab FC (PFC), netting 10 goals, the highest for the team this season. Despite an early jaw injury, he maintained an impressive average of 0.5 goals per game and a 28.57% conversion rate.


Nikolaos Karelis emerged as a key player for Mumbai City FC (MCFC), finishing his debut season as the team's top scorer with 10 goals. He maintained a 25% goal contribution rate and averaged 0.53 goals per game.


Diego Mauricio played a crucial role for Odisha FC (OFC), scoring nine goals and providing six assists. He created 19 chances and won 47 duels, showcasing his all-around capabilities with a 23.08% goal conversion rate.


Jason Cummings excelled in his playmaking role for Mohun Bagan Super Giant, scoring seven goals and assisting six. His dynamic presence in the attack, particularly in the latter half of the season, made him a constant threat to defenders.


Iker Guarrotxena was pivotal for FC Goa (FCG), contributing to 10 goals and creating 14 chances. His ability to deliver crucial goals under pressure solidified his status as a key player for the team.


Noah Sadaoui showcased his speed and skill on the wings for Kerala Blasters FC, becoming the first player to achieve 200 progressive carries this season. He also scored seven goals and provided five assists in 19 appearances.
