New Zealand's captain, Tom Latham, will miss the opening T20 International against Bangladesh due to a toe injury sustained during practice, as confirmed by New Zealand Cricket.
The first match of the T20 series is set to take place at the Bir Sreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Chattogram on Monday.
Latham's Injury Details and Captaincy Change
An official announcement on social media revealed that Latham suffered a cut below his right big toenail after being hit by the ball while batting in training.
"Tom Latham has been ruled out of today's T20 match against Bangladesh after sustaining a laceration on his right big toe during practice yesterday. His participation in the remaining matches will be evaluated on a game-by-game basis," the statement noted.
In Latham's absence, Nick Kelly from the Wellington Firebirds will step in as captain for this match, marking him as the 13th player to lead New Zealand in T20 Internationals.
