Tim David Faces Penalty for Disobeying Umpire's Orders in IPL Clash
Mumbai: Tim David Penalized for Code of Conduct Violation
In a recent IPL match against the Mumbai Indians, Tim David, an all-rounder for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, was fined 25% of his match fee and received a demerit point for not following an umpire's instructions.
David's actions were deemed a violation of Level 1 of the IPL's code of conduct for players and team officials. Additionally, Mumbai Indians' captain Hardik Pandya was also penalized for a slow over-rate.
According to an official statement from the IPL, David breached Article 2.4 of the league's code of conduct.
Pandya's fine was imposed after RCB's innings extended beyond two hours.
The IPL noted, "Hardik Pandya, Captain, MI, has been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate. As this was his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, he has been fined Rs 12 lakhs."
The match saw both teams taking multiple breaks due to the hot and humid weather. The first innings concluded in two hours and one minute, while the second took two hours and four minutes.
David reportedly failed to hand the ball to the umpires on two occasions during RCB's innings, where he scored a brisk 34 runs off 16 balls, including three sixes and two fours.
The first incident occurred during the 18th over when the umpires changed the ball. Despite repeated requests, he did not return the ball. The second incident happened in the 20th over, where he again failed to comply with the umpires' directives. David has acknowledged his mistake and accepted the penalty.
