The excitement of the 26th Asian Senior Fencing Championship reached its climax on Wednesday at Bharat Mandapam, where the last two team titles were fiercely contested.
In the Men's Foil team event, spectators witnessed an impressive display of strategic blade work and quick transitions. The Japanese team, led by individual champion Kyosuke Matsuyama and supported by Kazuki Iimura, Shunsuke Baba, and Ryoga Ono, showcased exceptional distance control and defensive techniques, ultimately winning the gold medal.
Hong Kong's team, featuring two-time Olympic Individual Champion Cheung Ka Long, along with Ryan Choi Chun Yin, Harris Ho Shing Him, and Leung Chin Yu, fought valiantly to secure the silver medal. Meanwhile, the Chinese team, consisting of Yifan Guo, Weiqiao Lyu, Jie Xu, and Zhaoran Zeng, claimed the bronze medal, as reported by SAI Media.
The Women's Epee team event also saw intense competition, with teams making tactical adjustments to maximize their scores. South Korea's formidable lineup of Lee, Lim, Song, and Yang delivered a stellar performance, earning them the gold medal after defeating China's skilled team of Liu, Tang, Yang, and Yu, who took home the silver.
Kazakhstan's team, represented by Andreyeva, Bakaldina, Samodelkina, and Nikolaichuk, rounded out the podium with a bronze medal following a commendable tournament.
India, the host nation, demonstrated significant technical advancement, competing against some of Asia's top teams. In the Men's Foil Team event, the local squad, including Sachin, Sanasam Hemash Singh, Tejas Manoj Patil, and Aditya, relied on quick blade work and close combat tactics. Supported by an enthusiastic home crowd, they minimized errors and finished in a commendable 8th place, securing a direct qualification for the upcoming Asian Games.
On the women's side, the Epee Team, featuring Prachi Lohan, Taniksha Khatri, Mitva Jesangbhai Chaudhari, and Yashkeerat Kaur Hayer, displayed remarkable tactical resilience. They effectively managed time and distance against formidable opponents, achieving a solid 9th-place finish.
