New York, Sep 7: Emma Navarro from the United States has secured her spot in the quarterfinals of the 2026 US Open after defeating Anna Kalinskaya with a score of 6-4, 6-2 during the fourth round held at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Sunday night.

Seeded 25th, Navarro has now reached her fourth quarterfinal in a Grand Slam, aiming to replicate her impressive semifinal performance at Flushing Meadows in 2024, which remains her best result in a major tournament.

After winning the first set, Navarro displayed increased confidence, quickly establishing a 5-1 lead in the second set. Although Kalinskaya managed to break back once, it was insufficient as Navarro broke her opponent again in the eighth game, concluding the match in 1 hour and 21 minutes.

This marks Navarro's fourth appearance in a Grand Slam quarterfinal, having previously reached this stage at Wimbledon 2024, the US Open 2024, and the Australian Open 2025.

Navarro's victory sets the stage for an all-American quarterfinal against the third seed, Jessica Pegula, who has won all four of their previous encounters, including a recent match in Cincinnati where Navarro lost 7-5, 6-2.

This matchup will be the first all-American women's singles quarterfinal at the US Open since Serena Williams faced Venus Williams in 2015.

Pegula advanced to the quarterfinals by defeating No. 16 Sorana Cirstea with a score of 6-3, 6-4, marking her third consecutive appearance in the US Open quarterfinals.

Looking ahead to her match against Pegula, Navarro remarked, "Jess is really tough. She probably hits the flattest ball on tour, keeps it low, can hit it short and flat or deep and it looks the same. Just a really great ball striker and super consistent from the baseline. I think I’ll have to match that and try to get her out of her rhythm a little bit.

"I have lost to her a few times now, but there’s always that time when you get over the hump and get the win, so hopefully that will be in a couple of days."
