Montreal, Aug 13: In a remarkable display of skill, Brandon Nakashima triumphed over Rafael Jodar, securing his place in the final of the ATP Masters 1000 at the Canadian Open.

The American showcased his strong serving and effective net play, defeating the Spaniard with a score of 7-6 (3), 6-4. This victory halted Jodar's quest to become the youngest finalist at the Canadian Open since Rafael Nadal in 2005.

After a tightly contested first set that ended in a tiebreak, Nakashima crucially saved four break points while serving at 5-4 in the second set, ultimately winning the match in two hours and four minutes.

This win marks Nakashima's fifth victory against a Top-20 player this season, propelling him to his fifth final at the tour level, and his first at an ATP 1000 event. The 25-year-old is now ranked No. 22 in the ATP Live Rankings and is set to achieve a career-high ranking following the upcoming update.

Nakashima had six break point opportunities during Jodar's first two service games but failed to convert. He maintained his serve comfortably, while Jodar had a single chance to break Nakashima's serve at 4-4 in the first set, which Nakashima successfully defended.

In the tiebreak, a netted forehand from Jodar gave Nakashima the first mini-break at 2-4, a crucial moment that shifted momentum in his favor.

At the start of the second set, Nakashima executed a brilliant half-volley winner and capitalized on Jodar's second serves. Although Jodar lost his serve again, he fought back to stay in the match, energizing the crowd at IGA Stadium with his athleticism.

Nakashima faced two break points but managed to save them. Jodar continued to battle, saving another break point at 2-4 and two match points at 3-5, one of which was saved with a clever drop shot.

Despite a few errors that put him at 0-30, Nakashima seized a volley opportunity after Jodar's backhand passing shot went awry. Jodar saved another match point with a well-placed backhand that kept him in contention.

The match concluded dramatically when Nakashima converted his fifth match point with a precise serve, finishing with 28 winners and 28 unforced errors, while winning 81% of his first-serve points.
