Highlights from Day Two of the Federation Cup 2026


The second day of the Federation Cup 2026 was marked by outstanding performances from Tejaswin Shankar, Gurindervir Singh, and Vishal TK, who all made significant achievements in their events. Gurindervir set a new national record, while Tejaswin became the first Indian athlete to surpass the 8000-point threshold in the Decathlon. Vishal also excelled, breaking his own record to establish a new national benchmark in the 400m event.


Competing for Reliance, Gurindervir clocked an impressive 10.09 seconds in the 100m, earning him the title of the fastest Indian and securing his spot for the Commonwealth Games 2026, where the qualification standard was set at 10.16 seconds. Animesh Kujur, who finished second, recorded a time of 10.20 seconds.


Tejaswin's remarkable performance in the Decathlon earned him a total of 8057 points, surpassing his previous best of 7826 points. Meanwhile, Vishal made history by completing the 400m in under 45 seconds, finishing in 44.98 seconds, just shy of the Commonwealth Games qualification mark of 44.96 seconds.


Other Notable Results


In the Women's Triple Jump, competitors were unable to meet the Commonwealth Games qualification mark of 14.25m, with Niharika Vashisht achieving the best jump of 13.64m. In shot put, Krishna Jayasankar's top throw of 17.35m fell short of the 17.62m qualification requirement. Javelin thrower Shilpa Rani recorded a best throw of 56.46m but did not qualify, as the mark was set at 59.79m. However, Sudeshna Hanmant Shivankar (11.56s), Giridharani Ravikumar (11.58s), and Tamanna (11.62s) successfully qualified for the Commonwealth Games in the Women's 100m event.
