Tanvi Sharma Reflects on Narrow Defeat to World No. 2 at India Open 2026
Tanvi Sharma on Her Challenging Match Against Wang Zhiyi
Following her match against World No. 2 Wang Zhiyi at the India Open 2026, shuttler Tanvi Sharma expressed her exhaustion during the final set. "I performed well in the first game, but I made some mistakes after reaching 19-20, which led to a loss of 20-22. However, I started strong in the second game and managed to win it. In the third game, I was leading 11-5, but fatigue set in, and I couldn't maintain my performance. I gave it my all," Tanvi shared with the media.
She emphasized her focus on giving her best rather than fixating on the outcome against the highly-ranked Wang Zhiyi.
In the match, Tanvi Sharma faced a scoreline of 20-22, 21-18, 13-21. Although she lost the first set, she bounced back to win the second before being outplayed in the final set.
"My goal was to give my 100 percent. Winning wasn't my primary concern, especially against someone like Wang Zhiyi. This experience has boosted my confidence, and I'm eager to move forward," she added.
PV Sindhu's Reflections After Defeat
In another match, PV Sindhu faced a setback against Vietnam's TL Nguyen, stating that it simply wasn't her day. She plans to reassess her strategy as she prepares for the next BWF tournament. "It wasn't my day. There were some great rallies, but at this level, everyone plays exceptionally well. After winning the first set, I lost the second, and in the third, I was at 11-10 when my opponent pulled ahead by 2-3 points. Now, I need to regroup and prepare for the upcoming tournament. The court facilities here are satisfactory, and I hope to perform better in Indonesia," Sindhu remarked.
Sindhu exited the India Open tournament after losing her Round of 64 match against TL Nguyen in three sets, with scores of 20-22, 21-12, and 21-15. Despite winning the first set, she was unable to maintain her momentum as her opponent secured consecutive set victories.
