Tajinderpal Toor and Annu Rani Shine at Indian Athletics Series in Sangrur
Toor and Rani Gear Up at Indian Athletics Series
At the fifth leg of the Indian Athletics Series in Sangrur, Punjab, Tajinderpal Singh Toor, a two-time Asian Games gold medalist in men's shot put, showcased an impressive performance. He achieved a remarkable throw of 19.97 meters, securing a dominant victory in the event, as reported by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI).
The 31-year-old athlete from Punjab is preparing for a significant domestic competition scheduled later this month in Ranchi. "My primary objective this season is to excel in major international competitions," stated Toor, who clinched gold medals at the Asian Games in both 2018 and 2022. Earlier this season, he recorded a personal best of 21.03 meters during the Delhi leg of the Indian Athletics Series.
The Sangrur event also served as a crucial opportunity for Annu Rani, a two-time Olympian and Asian Games champion in women's javelin throw, to assess her readiness for the upcoming season. The 33-year-old finished in third place with a throw of 55.78 meters.
In the women's javelin throw competition, Shilpa Rani from Haryana took first place with a throw of 57.65 meters, while Rashmi K from Andhra Pradesh secured second with a throw of 56.15 meters.
Harjit Singh from the Air Force and Fatema Begam from Tripura were recognized as the fastest male and female runners of the one-day meet, respectively. Fatema also triumphed in the women's 200m race.
