Suryakumar Yadav Gears Up for T20 World Cup Challenge
Preparing for the T20 World Cup
As India gets ready to defend their ICC Men's T20 World Cup title on home soil, captain Suryakumar Yadav is focused on making history. The 35-year-old, who played a crucial role in the team's victory in 2024, draws inspiration from the previous tournament and the coveted trophy, according to the ICC website.
Suryakumar's Thoughts on Leadership
"Leading the team into the T20 World Cup is a significant challenge, and I am thrilled about it. It's going to be an enjoyable experience. The sight of the trophy motivates me immensely. When we arrived in the West Indies, co-hosts of the 2024 event, we would gaze at the silverware during the national anthem every time," Suryakumar expressed during a special event that unveiled the T20 World Cup fixtures.
"We were determined to win the trophy as soon as the final arrived. Seeing it up close again fuels my motivation. Playing in India adds to the excitement, and I believe it will be a lot of fun," he added.
Leading a Fresh Team
Next year's marquee tournament marks the first time India will host a T20 World Cup since 2016 and their first ICC men's tournament since the 2023 Cricket World Cup.
As a member of the squad from two years ago, Suryakumar brings valuable experience to a team that includes many new players.
"The players are very enthusiastic. Everyone is eager to be part of this squad for the T20 World Cup. I have shared numerous experiences from my time in the 2023 ODI World Cup in India. The atmosphere was entirely different. I have informed them that this is a different ball game. While the fan turnout will be similar to franchise cricket, representing the country evokes a unique emotion," Suryakumar noted.
"They are very excited. We are aiming to play a different style of cricket, and I hope we can maintain that momentum heading into the World Cup," he concluded.
India's First Match
India will commence their T20 World Cup journey on February 7, 2026, facing the USA at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
