Discover more about this exciting encounter and its implications for both teams.

Sunrisers Hyderabad Secures Victory

In a thrilling encounter during the 41st match of the Indian Premier League 2026, Sunrisers Hyderabad emerged victorious against Mumbai Indians by six wickets. The target set by Mumbai was the fourth highest in IPL history, but thanks to explosive performances from players like Heinrich Klaasen, Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, and Salil Arora, the team successfully chased it down.

This win overshadowed a remarkable century by Mumbai's Ryan Rickelton, who scored an impressive 123 runs off just 55 balls, featuring 10 fours and 8 sixes at a strike rate of 223.64. He reached his century in just 44 balls, setting a record for the fastest century by a Mumbai Indians player.

Previously, this record was held by Sanath Jayasuriya, who completed his century in 45 balls. Rickelton's score is now the highest ever by a Mumbai player, surpassing Jayasuriya's unbeaten 114 from the inaugural season. However, the joy of his century was dampened by the team's loss on the night of April 29.

With this defeat, Rickelton joined an unfortunate group alongside legends Sachin Tendulkar and Rohit Sharma, where players scored centuries but their teams ended up losing. He became the fourth Mumbai player to achieve this feat, following Tendulkar, Sharma, and Quinton de Kock.

Tendulkar scored a century against Kochi Tuskers Kerala in 2011, but the team lost by 8 wickets. Similarly, Sharma's century in 2024 against Chennai Super Kings was in vain as Mumbai lost by 20 runs, and de Kock's century this year could not save the team from a 7-wicket defeat against Punjab Kings.

Mumbai's Century Not Enough for Victory

Meanwhile, Sunrisers Hyderabad achieved the milestone of successfully chasing a target of over 240 runs for the second time. Following this victory, they celebrated their 100th win in IPL history, becoming the eighth team to reach this landmark.

This match marked Sunrisers Hyderabad's fifth consecutive win in IPL 2026. It is the fifth instance in IPL history where they have won five or more matches in a row, with previous streaks occurring in 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2022. Notably, they recorded their longest winning streak of six matches in the 2018 season.

Historically, there have been 48 successful chases of 200 runs or more in IPL, with 33 of those occurring in the last four seasons alone. Between 2008 and 2022, only 15 successful chases of 200 or more runs were recorded.

Since IPL 2025, out of 19 chases of 200 or more runs, only five have gone to the final over, indicating that teams have been able to secure victories before the 19th over in most cases. Remarkably, none of the five matches that reached the 20th over exceeded 19.3 overs.
