Sunrisers Hyderabad Secures First IPL 2026 Victory Against Kolkata Knight Riders
SRH Triumphs Over KKR
In their second match of IPL 2026, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) achieved their inaugural victory by defeating Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Eden Gardens with a commanding margin of 65 runs. Abhishek Sharma played a pivotal role in this win, contributing 48 runs and providing a solid start alongside Travis Head. However, the talented Indian opener faced repercussions from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He was fined 25% of his match fees and received a demerit point for violating the IPL code of conduct.
According to an official statement from the IPL, "Abhishek Sharma, All-rounder for Sunrisers Hyderabad, has been penalized 25% of his match fees and has also received one demerit point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the match against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Thursday." The statement further noted that he acknowledged the Level 1 offense under Article 2.3 and accepted the Match Referee’s ruling. For Level 1 violations of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is conclusive and obligatory.
Reason Behind Abhishek Sharma's Fine
Abhishek Sharma was dismissed by Blessing Muzarabani after hitting the ball directly into Varun Chakaravarthy's hands. Varun executed a remarkable diving catch, and Abhishek lingered to verify if the catch was legitimate and whether the ball had touched the ground. Despite the umpires and the third umpire declaring him out, he remained at the crease, which resulted in the fine imposed by the match referee.
Returning to the match details, SRH batted first and posted an impressive total of 226 runs, with Henrich Klaasen leading the scoring with a half-century. In response, KKR was bowled out for 161 runs, sealing SRH's victory by 65 runs.
