Sri Lanka's Strong Performance on Day 2

At the conclusion of Day 2 in the second Test match against Bangladesh, Sri Lanka stood at 290 for 2 after 78 overs at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground in Colombo. The home team dismissed the Bangladeshi side early in the day, showcasing their dominance throughout the match.

Ebadot Hossain was dismissed for just eight runs off 13 balls in the fourth over. Taijul Islam managed to score 33 runs off 60 deliveries before becoming the last wicket to fall, marking Sonal Dinusha's third wicket of the match. The left-arm spinner, making his debut, finished with impressive figures of 3 wickets for 22 runs in 9.3 overs.

Sri Lanka started their innings aggressively, with openers Pathum Nissanka and Lahiru Udara hitting nine boundaries in the first 10 overs, accumulating 55 runs. The players took lunch after the 21st over, and although no boundaries were scored in the last 10 overs before the break, the hosts were in a strong position.

The second session saw Udara dismissed by Taijul, who trapped him in front, leaving Udara just 10 runs shy of his first half-century in Test cricket. Dinesh Chandimal took over from Nayeem Hasan and quickly hit three boundaries. Taijul was relieved from bowling after completing 45 overs.

After bowling tirelessly for 22 overs, Taijul's efforts were acknowledged as Dinesh Chandimal reached his fifty off 70 balls, marking the 34th time he has scored 50 or more in Test matches. By the time tea was called, Sri Lanka had reached 190, largely due to the partnership between Nissanka and Chandimal after Taijul's dismissal of Udara.

Nissanka celebrated his century with his 12th boundary of the innings. Following the tea break, Taijul was replaced after bowling four overs. As the match progressed, it became a race to see who would reach their milestones first: Chandimal with 150 runs and Nissanka with his century.

However, an unnecessary reverse-sweep from Chandimal led to his dismissal at 93 runs off 153 balls, marking his first dismissal in the nineties. Prabath Jayasuriya stepped in as the nightwatchman, managing to score off his 10th ball with an edge over slip.
