Announcement of SPL India Cup 2027

The SPL cricket tournament, aimed at providing a national platform for emerging cricket talents, has announced its second edition, set to take place in February-March 2027. This year's event will be known as the 'SPL India Cup 2027' and will feature significant changes, including a shift to a T-12 format, an auction system for players, the use of synthetic leather balls, and a prize pool of ₹31 lakh for the winning team.

A press conference held at the Constitution Club of Rajasthan in Jaipur featured key figures such as chief patron Pandit Devkinandan Thakur, 1983 World Cup winner Madan Lal, founder Vijay Sharma, chief advisor Sumit Tiwari, strategic advisor Ajay Bhatiwal, cricket operations chief Sanjeev Mishra, and secretary Yogesh Sharma.

Following the success of the inaugural edition, the organizers have implemented extensive changes to enhance professionalism and transparency for the upcoming tournament. The competition will now utilize a T-12 format instead of T-10 and will replace tennis balls with synthetic leather balls.

Pandit Devkinandan Thakur emphasized that sports serve not only as a means of competition but also as a powerful tool for instilling discipline, character development, patriotism, and social responsibility among youth. He stated that the SPL India Cup aims to nurture responsible and inspiring young individuals, not just showcase cricket talent.

Former international cricketer Madan Lal remarked on the abundance of talent in smaller towns and villages, asserting that with the right opportunities and guidance, these players can reach national levels. He highlighted that a transparent selection process and competitive environment would provide better chances for players to advance.

Founder Vijay Sharma noted that players aged between 14 and 35 will be eligible to participate in the tournament. Trials will be conducted nationwide, leading to the creation of an auction pool of 250 players, which will include 50 based on performance from the first edition and 200 selected through trials. Subsequently, eight teams will select 128 players via auction, with each team comprising 16 players.

Players will be categorized into A, B, and C grades based on their performance. The base price for A-grade players is set at ₹75,000, for B-grade at ₹50,000, and for C-grade at ₹25,000.

Eight teams representing Maharashtra, Gujarat, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Uttarakhand, and Rajasthan will compete in the tournament.

According to the organizers, the winning team will receive ₹31 lakh, while the runners-up will be awarded ₹21 lakh. Additionally, the Player of the Series will win a car, and the best batsman and bowler will each receive a motorcycle as prizes.

The organizing committee stated that the SPL India Cup's goal extends beyond merely hosting a cricket tournament; it aims to promote social causes through sports and provide young players with opportunities to reach national levels.
