Speculations Rise Over Potential TNA Sale to WWE Amid Internal Changes
Internal Changes Spark TNA Sale Rumors
Recent internal shifts at Anthem Sports & Entertainment have reignited discussions regarding a possible sale of TNA to WWE. The company recently announced a 'workforce reduction,' leading to the exits of notable figures like Tommy Dreamer and Tessa Blanchard. Additionally, Sami Callihan's departure has intensified speculation about a potential restructuring aimed at facilitating a sale.
Is TNA on WWE's Radar?
During a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer addressed the possibility of WWE acquiring TNA, suggesting that if WWE desired, they could make the purchase. However, he does not foresee a hefty price tag attached to such a deal. "TNA has incurred significant losses, and the Aspers are likely looking for a way to recoup their investment," he explained.
Meltzer drew parallels between this situation and WWE's recent acquisition of AAA, which was executed in partnership with a Mexican business entity. He noted, "WWE can secure TNA whenever they choose, but they typically do not invest heavily in acquisitions. For instance, they spent very little to acquire WCW, and the financial burden for AAA was primarily borne by the Mexican company, with WWE only contributing a fraction of the cost."
He further mentioned that in any potential agreement with TNA, WWE would hold the right of first refusal. "While they can acquire TNA, I don't expect them to pay a premium for it. The specifics of the contract remain unclear, particularly regarding the possibility of selling to other parties. However, WWE would certainly have the first option on any deal, making the situation quite intriguing," he added.
At present, there are no indications that a sale is imminent. Nonetheless, the situation will be closely observed, especially since the ongoing WWE-TNA partnership and the AMC deal could influence the company's valuation.
