Shukri Conrad, the head coach of South Africa, is eagerly anticipating the three-match ICC World Test Championship series against Australia, which is set to commence on October 9. This matchup features the reigning champions facing off against the top-ranked Test team, as confirmed by the ICC.

This series marks a rematch following their encounter in the 2025 WTC Final at Lord's, where South Africa triumphed over Australia by five wickets. Key performances from Aiden Markram, who scored 136 runs, and Kagiso Rabada, who took nine wickets, were pivotal in securing the victory.

Conrad Discusses Home Advantage and Rivalry

Conrad expressed his enthusiasm about hosting Australia on home turf for the first time since 2018. He remarked, "Any series against Australia is something to look forward to, especially since it's at home. We haven't had international Test cricket in South Africa for nearly two years, and I am excited to play in front of our home fans against arguably the best team in the world."

He also noted that the rivalry adds an exciting dimension to the series, especially after South Africa's recent victory in the WTC Final. "There has always been a competitive edge between South Africa and Australia. While it may not be as intense as in the past, our win in the final last year certainly adds some spice to what promises to be an exhilarating series," Conrad stated.

A Challenging Series Ahead

"We hold great respect for them as a champion side. Last year, we identified some weaknesses in their lineup that we can exploit. We are aware of their formidable bowling attack, but we believe that if we perform to our full potential, we can counter that effectively. There are many lessons to be learned," Conrad added.

"A three-match series presents a different challenge compared to a single test. This will be our first three-match series in quite some time, as we are used to two-match series. It will truly test our capabilities. The insights gained from our previous victory give us confidence that we can succeed when we play at our best," he concluded.

WTC Final Roadmap and Match Schedule

The last series between these two teams in the red-ball format took place from late 2022 to early 2023, where Australia defeated South Africa 2-0 in a three-match series. The upcoming three-Test series is crucial in the 2025-27 WTC cycle, with both teams currently positioned among the top contenders for a spot in next year's Ultimate Test at The Oval. Australia leads the standings with eight wins from ten matches and a points percentage of 80%, while South Africa follows closely with a points percentage of 75, as reported by the ICC.

The first Test is scheduled from October 9-13 in Durban, the second from October 18-22 in Gqeberha, and the third from October 27-31 in Cape Town.
