Background of Sonam Zomba

Originating from Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh, Sonam Zomba did not initially aspire to be a professional fighter. Her introduction to MMA came during her college years in Guwahati, where a friend encouraged her to participate in self-defense classes. What began as a casual interest soon evolved into a serious commitment. Zomba faced significant challenges on her path to becoming a world champion. In her debut fight against Kiran Singh in 2018, she suffered a severe elbow injury that sidelined her for four years before making her comeback in 2022. Despite being advised to abandon the sport due to safety concerns, Sonam persevered. She continued her education in Guwahati while training, despite facing financial difficulties and a knee injury that extended her hiatus. Nevertheless, her determination paid off, as she has remained undefeated since her return, achieving seven consecutive victories, including two title defenses.
