Sofia Sewing Set to Join PPA Tour in 2027 After Major League Pickleball Success
Sofia Sewing's Transition to PPA Tour
Sofia Sewing is gearing up to officially join the PPA Tour starting January 1, 2027, following her recent contract with the United Pickleball Association (UPA). This agreement, finalized last month, allows the 26-year-old to participate in Major League Pickleball (MLP) for the upcoming season while she fulfills her existing commitments on the APP Tour. Once those obligations are completed, Sewing will fully transition to the PPA Tour.
Currently, Sewing is part of MLP’s latest franchise, the Palm Beach Royals, which positions her well within the league ahead of her complete return to the PPA. Her contract is similar to that of Will Howells, who signed a comparable deal in 2025 before moving to full-time PPA competition in 2026. Sewing has not competed on the PPA Tour since 2024, and her confirmed return in 2027 is a significant milestone in her professional journey as she prepares to re-enter the sport's top tour.
Earlier this year, Sewing made headlines by winning the women's singles title at the PWR DUPR India Masters, defeating top seed Kao Pei Chuan in the final. Entering the tournament as the third seed, Sewing showcased her skills by dominating Chuan with scores of 11-3, 11-2 to claim the title.
Born on July 22, 1999, in Miami, Sofia Sewing was previously a professional tennis player. She has earned over $76,000 in prize money and reached the top 10 in the ITF junior rankings, peaking at number 9. In the WTA rankings, she achieved a career-high of 455th in singles and 125th in doubles. Sewing also reached the finals of the WTA Challenge Tour in 2022 and has won a total of 4 singles and 14 doubles titles. Her recent success in pickleball, including her historic win at the PWR DUPR India Masters, has set her on a path to continue achieving accolades in the sport.
With a DUPR rating of 5.113 coming into the tournament, Sewing is poised to maintain her momentum and further her accomplishments in pickleball.
