Historic Victory for Simranpreet Kaur Brar
Simranpreet Kaur Brar, a BA-III student from Dasmesh Girls College in Badal village, Muktsar district, achieved a remarkable milestone on Sunday by clinching the gold medal in the women’s 25m pistol event at the ISSF World Cup Final held in Doha, Qatar.
She equaled the junior world record with an impressive score of 41, outpacing competitors Yao Qianxun from China (36) and Germany’s Doreen Vennekamp (30) to secure India's top position on the podium.
As the only daughter in her family, Simranpreet is supported by her father, Shaminder Singh, a retired government educator, and her mother, Harcharan Kaur, who is currently a government teacher.
In a statement on the ISSF official website, Simranpreet expressed her joy, saying, “Winning this medal feels incredible. I focused on perfecting my technique and executing the shot rather than getting distracted by the screen. Although I felt nervous during the finals, I managed to perform well.”
Her father, Shaminder Singh, shared his pride with The Tribune, stating, “Simranpreet has been dedicated to shooting since she was 11. She aspires to compete in the Olympics and bring home a medal for India.”
Sukhbir Singh Badal, the chief of Shiromani Akali Dal and chairman of the college, along with Principal Dr. SS Sangha, commended her outstanding achievement.
While representing Panjab University, Chandigarh, Simranpreet also secured two gold medals at the Khelo India University Games 2025.
