He surpassed Ishan Kishan's previous record of a 126-ball double century set against Bangladesh in 2022. With two double tons, Gill now stands alongside Rohit Sharma, who has three.

Gill became only the second player after Glenn Maxwell to score a double century while chasing, with Maxwell's 201 not out against Afghanistan in 2023.

Additionally, Gill is the first cricketer to score a double century while captaining the team, having previously scored 269 against England.
