Shubman Gill's Leadership Role

Shubman Gill, the newly appointed Test captain of India, faces the challenge of leading a young team without the presence of seasoned players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. This perspective comes from spin legend Harbhajan Singh, who believes that the team should not be prematurely evaluated.

On Saturday, the 25-year-old Gill was named the full-time captain, with Rishabh Pant serving as his vice-captain, as the team prepares for the upcoming World Test Championship cycle, starting with a tour to England next month.

Harbhajan expressed his support for Gill's appointment but acknowledged the hurdles that lie ahead. He stated, "It's a significant decision to have a young captain like Shubman Gill, who has excelled in franchise cricket."

He added, "However, the England tour is notoriously challenging. With the absence of Kohli and Sharma, there is a noticeable void that needs to be addressed, and Shubman must step up to lead effectively."

Harbhajan urged fans and critics to allow the team time to adjust, emphasizing that they should not rush to conclusions if the series against England does not yield favorable results.

"I encourage everyone to refrain from hasty judgments, even if the tour does not go as planned. It's important for the players to learn from their experiences," he remarked, expressing confidence that the touring squad will improve.
