Shubman Gill Set for T20 Comeback Against South Africa After Injury Recovery
Shubman Gill's Return to the Field
Cuttack: After a challenging recovery from a serious neck injury, Shubman Gill is eager to make his return in the upcoming T20 International series against South Africa. His rehabilitation took place at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, where he received extensive care.
The Centre has now cleared Gill to participate in the five-match series starting this Tuesday. The injury occurred while he was executing a sweep shot during the first Test against South Africa last month, which led to his absence from the second Test in Guwahati and the following ODI series.
As the T20 vice-captain, Gill aims to deliver impressive performances against the South African team.
"I’m feeling much better. Since the day I arrived here, I’ve engaged in numerous skill and training sessions. I feel significantly improved," Gill shared with 'bcci.tv'.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also released footage showcasing Gill's training and rehabilitation, overseen by strength and conditioning coach S Rajnikanth.
In the video, Gill was observed practicing the sweep shot.
Reflecting on his time at the National Cricket Academy, which has now evolved into a comprehensive Centre of Excellence on the outskirts of the city, Gill expressed nostalgia.
"During my under-14 and under-16 days, it was a big deal for us when someone returned from the NCA. Coming here means you’re among the best, equipped with the skills to elevate your game and utilize the facilities to enhance both physically and mentally," Gill remarked.
