This performance helped stabilize the Indian middle order after a brief collapse, placing him alongside cricket legends such as Don Bradman, Garfield Sobers, and Graeme Smith, as well as Indian greats like Rahul Dravid, Mohammad Azharuddin, and Dilip Vengsarkar.

Previously, Gill had made a century during his captaincy debut at Leeds in the first Test. His second century came just a week later at Edgbaston, making him the ninth captain to achieve consecutive centuries in his first two Tests in England. Notably, Don Bradman accomplished this feat in 1938, with others like Sir Garfield Sobers and Graeme Smith also on the list.


As an Indian, he follows in the footsteps of Mohammad Azharuddin, who achieved this in 1990.


2 | Fourth Indian captain to score centuries in first two Tests as captain


Shubman Gill has now become the fourth Indian captain to score centuries in both of his initial Tests, joining the ranks of Virat Kohli, Vijay Hazare, and Sunil Gavaskar.

With his century at Edgbaston, he has become only the second Indian captain, alongside Kohli, to score a century at this venue.
