Shubhankar Sharma Triumphs at Boulders Classic with Stellar Performance
Shubhankar Sharma's Impressive Win
Indian golfer Shubhankar Sharma showcased an outstanding performance to clinch the inaugural Boulders Classic, which took place at the Boulder Hills Golf & Country Club in Hyderabad on Friday. This marked his much-anticipated return to the PGTI circuit, being his first domestic event since December 2021. The two-time DP World Tour champion demonstrated his exceptional skills and expertise to secure this prestigious title, as noted in a press release from the PGTI.
A Display of Skill and Control
The 29-year-old golfer exhibited remarkable control throughout the tournament, effectively navigating the course with his precise ball-striking and composed demeanor. His scores over the days highlighted his dominance: he began the tournament with a solid six-under 66 on Day 1, followed by another impressive six-under 66 on Day 2, giving him a two-shot lead at the halfway point.
On Day 3, Sharma's performance reached new heights as he recorded an eight-under 64, which included nine birdies and just one bogey, equaling the course record and establishing a significant seven-shot lead heading into the final round. He maintained his aggressive yet measured approach during the final round on Friday, comfortably securing the championship.
Reflections on a Successful Comeback
Having won six times on the DP World PGTI, Shubhankar Sharma was participating in his first event since the Tour Championship in Jamshedpur in December 2021. His last victory on the tour was at the McLeod Russel Tour Championship in Kolkata in December 2017.
"I played really solid today -- probably hit it the best I have all week. Everything was clicking, and even when I lost a bit of momentum, I bounced back quickly with birdies," Sharma remarked.
He further added, "It was nice to be hitting it close consistently. You have to get your yardages and wind reads right here, and I felt I did that well."
Sharma attributed his consistent performance over the first three rounds to his positive mindset. "I've just been in a happy state of mind, and that's showing on the course. The work is always constant -- I haven't done anything special, just stuck to my process and tried to cut out the mistakes," he explained.
