Sharma Secures Four-Shot Advantage

Shubhankar Sharma delivered an impressive performance, shooting a seven-under 65 to take a commanding four-shot lead after the second round of the Rs 2 crore Kapil Dev Invitational Tour Championship held at the Jaypee Greens Golf & Spa Resort in Greater Noida.

The 30-year-old golfer from Chandigarh, who had a score of 68 in the first round, made a remarkable comeback with an eagle, seven birdies, and two bogeys, bringing his total to 11-under 133, according to a recent announcement.

Round Two Leaderboard Changes

Brashwarpal Singh from Chandigarh matched Sharma's score for the day with a seven-under 65, which included eight birdies and one bogey, propelling him from a tie for 11th to second place with a total of seven-under 137.

Meanwhile, overnight leader Shaurya Bhattacharya from Delhi fell to third place with a score of six-under 138 after an even-par 72 that featured three birdies and three bogeys.

Khalin Joshi from Bengaluru, a four-time winner this season on the DP World PGTI, moved up from a tie for 11th to fourth place with a score of five-under 139, thanks to a 67 that included an eagle on the par-five fourth hole.

Sharma Reflects on Strong Performance

Shubhankar expressed satisfaction with his ball-striking, which had been inconsistent in recent weeks. He stated, "I played really well and felt very solid throughout the round. My ball-striking had not been at its best over the past few weeks, but today everything came together."

He added, "I hit the ball exactly where I wanted, shaped shots both ways, and felt in complete control. I could have made a few more putts, but I'm very pleased with the day."

Eagle Highlights His Round

The standout moment of Sharma's round occurred on the par-five fourth hole, where he drove the ball to the left side of the fairway, then hit a six-iron from about 212 yards to 18 feet and successfully made the eagle putt.

"The putt just caught the left edge," he noted. "Most of my shots came off exactly as I had visualized them, which was the most encouraging part."

Shubhankar continued to create scoring opportunities throughout the round, including on the final hole, where he approached within five feet but missed the birdie attempt. He remarked, "There were several shots like that today, which are positive signs for this tournament and my preparations for next week."

Acknowledgment of Kapil Dev's Influence

Shubhankar also commended Kapil Dev, the President of DP World PGTI, for his significant contributions to the tour's growth. He stated, "Since Mr. Kapil Dev took on the presidency, more sponsors have joined, and the organization, social media presence, and player facilities have improved significantly."

He shared that their recent Pro-Am experience in Hyderabad was made easier by their shared connection to Chandigarh, saying, "Despite being one of India’s biggest sporting icons, he constantly seeks ways to promote golf and advance the sport. Everyone in Chandigarh calls him 'Paaji', so conversing with him feels very natural. I have immense respect for his efforts in the game."
