Controversy Surrounds Shresta Iyer's Viral Video

Shresta Iyer, sister of Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Shreyas Iyer, has found herself at the center of online criticism after a video of her mocking the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) gained traction on social media. This incident followed the rain-abandoned match at Eden Gardens between the two teams.

Despite a promising start to the IPL 2026 season, where PBKS went unbeaten for seven matches, the team faltered in the latter stages, losing six consecutive games. Their elimination from playoff contention was confirmed when the Rajasthan Royals triumphed over the Mumbai Indians, leaving PBKS just one point short of qualification.

In the now-viral video, Shresta was seen jesting about KKR, stating, 'Saade Punjabiyan da dil vadda hunda hai, lo de ditta ek point.' (We Punjabis have big hearts; here, take a point.)

Shresta Iyer Responds to Backlash

After facing significant backlash, Shresta Iyer addressed the situation in a heartfelt video. She emphasized that her intentions were not malicious but rather a light-hearted show of support for her brother's team. Shresta expressed her respect for all cricketers and clarified that her video was meant to be playful, not derogatory.

She stated, 'The video I made in the past, you made such a small thing so big. No problem, you think it was a trolling video. Okay, according to me, it was a fun banter video, and I had no bad intentions behind it. I was just supporting my brother's team.'

Addressing Online Harassment

Shresta did not shy away from calling out the negativity directed at her, labeling the trolls as 'jobless' individuals projecting their frustrations onto others. She remarked, 'I genuinely pity you guys,' highlighting the toxic environment she faced online.

In her Instagram post, she reflected on the emotional journey of the PBKS season, describing it as an 'emotional rollercoaster' filled with highs and lows. To protect herself from further harassment, she disabled comments on her posts.

Moreover, Shresta revealed that her colleagues had also been targeted, receiving abusive calls at odd hours, which she condemned as crossing the line.

Shresta's Professional Background

Shresta Iyer is a talented dancer and choreographer, recently making her Bollywood debut with the lively track 'Agreement Karle' from the film Sarkari Baccha. Despite the controversy, she continues to focus on her career in the performing arts.

As for the Punjab Kings, they concluded the season in fifth place, securing 15 points from 14 matches with a net run rate of +0.309.
