Excitement at the World Championship of Legends
Birmingham [UK], July 22: Renowned West Indies cricketer Shivnarine Chanderpaul expressed his excitement about reconnecting with former teammates during the ongoing World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025, taking place in the UK from July 18 to August 2.
This tournament, endorsed by the England & Wales Cricket Board, stands out as the sole international T20 league dedicated to retired cricket professionals.
WCL 2025 is set across various venues including Birmingham, Northampton, Leicester, and Leeds, showcasing legendary players in a summer event approved by the England and Wales Cricket Board.
Reflecting on the joy of reuniting with his old teammates, Chanderpaul remarked, “It’s truly a pleasure to be among players I’ve shared the field with for so many years. These are the individuals I’ve spent countless hours with in the dressing room, and I’m thrilled to be part of this experience again. Working with them feels natural since we’ve known each other for so long, especially since I witnessed their entry into the West Indies team.”
The West Indies Champions team features iconic players such as Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard, and Dwayne Bravo, all donning the maroon colors once more.
Additionally, the tournament boasts a vibrant roster that includes Sheldon Cottrell, Lendl Simmons, Dwayne Smith, Shannon Gabriel, and Shivnarine Chanderpaul, promising an exhilarating competition.
Team owner Ajay Sethi commented on the West Indies Champions lineup for WCL 2025, stating, “I believe we have a well-rounded team. While having a strong, winning squad is crucial, I’m very pleased with our current roster. Each year, we’ll introduce new talent. I feel we have everything we need, although adding Carlos Braithwaite would have been fantastic; perhaps we can include him next year.”
