With his political future also uncertain, the implications of this ruling could significantly affect his role in upcoming matches for the Bangladesh team. As the situation develops, fans and followers are left wondering about the fate of this prominent figure in Bangladeshi cricket.

Court Imposes Travel Restrictions on Shakib Al Hasan

A court in Dhaka has imposed a travel restriction on Shakib Al Hasan, the former all-rounder and current politician from Bangladesh. This decision follows allegations regarding his involvement in dubious financial dealings. Shakib, who is affiliated with the ruling Awami League party, is now unable to leave Bangladesh, along with 15 other individuals, as they are suspected of illegally transferring significant amounts of money through the stock market.

Details of the Allegations

The order was issued by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge, Md Zakir Hossain, in response to two petitions filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). The documents indicate that Shakib and his associates engaged in questionable transactions amounting to Tk 8.97 crore and Tk 4.48 crore. The ACC claims these actions were intended to hide and misappropriate funds, violating Section 19(1) of Rule 24(3) of the microcredit law.

Impact on Shakib's Career

As a result of this ruling, Shakib is barred from boarding any flights until further notice from the court. His legal representatives have not yet made a public statement regarding the situation. The 38-year-old cricketer, who recently made a comeback to the sport after a six-month hiatus, now faces significant challenges off the field. His cricketing future remains uncertain as the legal proceedings continue in Dhaka.

Political and Cricketing Future in Jeopardy

Shakib's career, already marred by controversies, is now facing additional turmoil. His last appearance for the national team was in a Test match against India in October 2024. Following that, issues with his bowling action led to his absence from professional leagues. His return during the Pakistan Super League in May was intended to mark a new beginning, but disappointing performances—scoring two ducks and taking only one wicket—have raised doubts about his form.

Political Turmoil and Team Dynamics

Moreover, Shakib's political aspirations are in jeopardy due to instability within the ruling party. His plans to retire from Test cricket against South Africa were postponed amid this political unrest. Additionally, he was not included in the squad for Bangladesh's preparations for the Champions Trophy.

Upcoming Matches for Bangladesh Team

In the meantime, the Bangladesh cricket team is scheduled to tour Sri Lanka from June 17 to June 29 for two Test matches, followed by a series of three ODIs and three T20Is. Shakib's participation in these upcoming matches will depend on the resolution of his ongoing legal issues in Dhaka.
