Boland's Uncertain Selection for WTC Final

Scott Boland, Australia's experienced fast bowler, remains uncertain about his participation in the upcoming World Test Championship final against South Africa, scheduled for Tuesday at Lord's, a venue he is eager to play at.

The 36-year-old showcased his skills with impressive match figures of 5/105, playing a crucial role in Australia's victory at The Oval in 2023, where they claimed their first WTC title against India. He also made a significant impact during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, taking 21 wickets across three matches, helping Australia secure their first title in a decade.

Despite his strong performances, Boland is in a tight competition with IPL champion Josh Hazlewood for a place in the pace attack against the Proteas. With the match just days away, Boland is still awaiting confirmation from the selectors regarding his inclusion in the playing XI.

"I haven't had any discussions with the selectors yet. My focus over the past couple of months has been to ensure I'm fit and ready to step in if selected," Boland stated in London on Thursday, as reported by ICC.

"I felt some discomfort in my knee during the Shield season, which affected my bowling, but now I feel in great shape and ready to perform. I aim to make the selectors' decision as challenging as possible," he added.

Boland participated in his first training session with the Australian team on Wednesday, while Hazlewood joined the squad in London after his successful IPL campaign with Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Recognizing Hazlewood's capabilities, Boland emphasized his own recent strong performances in Test cricket. "I had a couple of solid games during the Border-Gavaskar series, but Josh is a world-class bowler, and I'm sure he will also be pushing hard for selection. We all want to play, but there may not be enough spots for everyone," Boland remarked.

Should Boland be selected, it will mark his debut at the historic Lord's, a moment he describes as "pretty special". "I would love to play at Lord's. Everyone is looking forward to training there soon and then competing, as it is a remarkable venue for cricket," he concluded.
