Dubai: Indian opener Sanju Samson has made it to the shortlist of eight contenders for the Player of the Tournament at the T20 World Cup, as announced by the ICC on Friday.

The list includes notable players such as England's Will Jacks, Pakistan's Sahibzada Farhan, South Africa's Lungi Ngidi and Aiden Markram, New Zealand's Rachin Ravindra and Tim Seifert, along with American bowler Shadley van Schalkwyk.

Samson, who initially missed the early matches, made a significant impact in the tournament with back-to-back player-of-the-match accolades.

He delivered a remarkable performance in the semifinals, scoring 89 runs off 42 balls against England, leading India to a thrilling seven-run victory. Prior to that, he scored 97 runs from 50 balls, helping the defending champions secure a five-wicket win over the West Indies in a crucial quarterfinal.

Throughout the tournament, the wicketkeeper-batter has accumulated 232 runs at an impressive average of 77.33 and a strike rate of 201.73 across four matches.

Will Jacks has been a key player for his team, contributing to six wins out of eight matches in the T20 World Cup. He has earned four player-of-the-match awards, scoring 226 runs and taking nine wickets.

Sahibzada Farhan has set a record with 383 runs in six innings, making him the highest run-scorer in a single T20 World Cup edition, including two centuries against Sri Lanka and Namibia.

Lungi Ngidi has been a crucial part of South Africa's bowling attack, taking 12 wickets in seven matches with an economy rate of 7.19.

Captain Aiden Markram has also been instrumental for South Africa, scoring 286 runs with three half-centuries and taking one wicket.

New Zealand's Rachin Ravindra has contributed significantly with both bat and ball, scoring 128 runs and taking 11 wickets in eight matches.

Despite the USA's early exit, Shadley van Schalkwyk has made a mark by taking 13 wickets in just four matches at an impressive economy rate of 6.80.

Tim Seifert has played a vital role in New Zealand's journey to the finals, scoring 274 runs in eight matches, including eight half-centuries.
