Wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson has attributed his success in the T20 World Cup 2026 to the guidance of cricketing icon Sachin Tendulkar. Samson delivered an outstanding performance in the final against New Zealand, held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on March 8.

He scored an impressive 89 runs off just 46 deliveries, hitting 8 sixes and 5 fours, achieving a strike rate of 193.48. This remarkable innings helped India set a formidable total of 255/5, which the bowlers defended effectively, dismissing New Zealand for 159 in 19 overs, resulting in a 96-run victory and securing the championship.

Consistent Contributions Throughout the Tournament

Throughout the tournament, Sanju Samson showcased his talent by scoring three consecutive fifties, including a standout 97* against the West Indies during the Super 8 stage at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, and another 89 in the semifinal against England at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.

In the post-match presentation, he shared that he had been in regular contact with Sachin Tendulkar over the past few months. "I have been in constant touch with Sachin Tendulkar sir. When I was not playing in Australia, I reflected on the mindset I needed. I reached out to him for guidance, and he called me yesterday to see how I was feeling. What more could I ask for?" Samson expressed.

Initially, Samson was not included in the playing XI as the management opted for Ishan Kishan to open alongside Abhishek Sharma. Having been part of the 2024 World Cup-winning squad without playing a match, Samson described his journey as a dream realized. He noted, "It all began one to two years ago when I was with the 2024 World Cup-winning team in the West Indies. I visualized my success and worked hard for it.
