Sanju Samson's Stellar Performance Recognized

Dubai: Indian opener Sanju Samson has been awarded the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for March, following an impressive performance that played a crucial role in India's successful T20 World Cup journey.

Although he did not participate in the tournament's early matches, Samson emerged as a key player in the later stages, contributing significantly to India's title defense.

This accolade marks a continuation of a remarkable trend, with players from various nations winning the award over the last five months, including Simon Harmer from South Africa, Australia's Mitchell Starc, New Zealand's Daryl Mitchell, and Pakistan's Sahibzada Farhan.

"Receiving the ICC Player of the Month award is an incredible honor, especially during such a memorable time in my cricketing career. Contributing to India's victory at the Men's T20 World Cup was a dream come true, and it took me a while to fully appreciate the significance of that achievement," Samson expressed.

"This is an exciting time for Indian cricket, filled with immense talent. I am thankful for the opportunities I've had and the support from my teammates and coaching staff that have enabled me to excel."

Initially not a regular in the playing XI, Samson was called upon for India's critical Super 8 matches. He began with a score of 24 against Zimbabwe and quickly found his rhythm.

He narrowly missed a century against the West Indies, scoring 97 not out, which was pivotal in securing India's place in the semifinals.

Samson's explosive 89 against England at Wankhede helped India post 253 for 7, a target that England fell short of by seven runs on March 5.

He replicated this performance with another 89 during India's title defense in Ahmedabad, leading to a 96-run victory.

In the three vital T20Is he participated in during March, Samson accumulated 275 runs at an impressive average of 137.50 and a remarkable strike rate of 199.27.

This recognition marks the first time Samson has received the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award.

In women's cricket, New Zealand's Melie Kerr claimed the women's award for the third time, following an exceptional series against Zimbabwe and South Africa.

Since taking over the white-ball teams from Sophie Devine, Kerr has excelled both as a bowler and a batsman. In the Zimbabwe ODI series, she took 16 wickets in just three matches, including a career-best performance of 7/34.

Additionally, she was the third-highest run-scorer in the ODIs, amassing 140 runs across three games with an average of 46.67 during the same month.
